ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Katavi Mining Company Limited is committed to addressing the environmental impacts and protect the local environment, spices of animals and continue to focus on improving our infrastructure as these have the greatest impact on the quality of life around the mining area. We have put in place international standards in our operations with regards to handling hazardous waste materials. We ensure improved energy efficiency and increased productivity to minimize environmental impacts. Our logistics and packaging activities have been modernized, and we are working towards the International Cyanide Management Code certification. Katavi Mining Company Limited has installed a filter (Cost: USD$750,000) for treating and handling tailing materials before they are buried at a designated dumping site. The Tanzanian environmental protection agency visits the site and conducts an all-round inspection of all processes regularly. Separate transportation and storage facilities are in place to store the waste fuel and lubricants and deliver them to selected contractors. The Company regularly collects various types of waste materials and hands it over to contractors for recycling. Katavi Mining Company Limited carries out regular, comprehensive evaluations of its business practices to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Katavi Mining Company Limited works together with customers, suppliers and the authorities to implement effective environment protection programmes that are good for the environment, and better for the community.

NATIONAL WORKFORCE

Local employment is always our first choice. Katavi Mining Company Limited's collaborative approach supports the local community in a sustainable way as its policies always highlight the objectives of a better human life. The Company works closely with the authorities, and wholeheartedly supports localization. In fact, Katavi Mining Company Limited has significantly reduced the organization's reliance on expatriates. The Company's localization policies are aimed at employing local people wherever possible. Katavi Mining Company Limited's pre-employment programmes such as university campus recruitment and regular in-house training help local people equip themselves and achieve necessary skills to join the workforce of Tanzania's growing mining sector.

Responsible mining ensures vast socio-economic benefits to the country. Today, Katavi Mining Company Limited is one of largest tax payers in Tanzania. In 2019, the Company paid TZS 8 billion as tax during installation of factory period.
